Revised Korean Thyroid Association Management Guidelines for Patients with Thyroid Nodules and Thyroid Cancer - A Physician’s View

Abstract

|
Recently, the detection of thyroid nodule and cancer is increasing. The prevalence of thyroid nodule is 14∼41% and the prevalence of thyroid cancer is 4∼12% among the subjects with thyroid nodules in Korea. Korean Thyroid Association (KTA) published ’Management guidelines for patients with thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer’ in 2007. Since 2007, a large amount of new clinical information has become available, and a revision of first guideline should be necessary. Therefore, KTA reviewed relevant new articles on the basis of revised American Thyroid Association guidelines (2009) and NCCN & AACE/AME/ETA recommendations (2010), and KTA created revised guidelines in 2010. Several recommendations were changed and added compared to the first guidelines.
